🧡 KCA Session 1 | Culture, Connection & Community I spy a few KCA students on stage! 🧐😃 On Thursday, our KCA Session 1 students spent the afternoon at the Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage! Students explored the exhibits, listened to cultural presentations, and learned more about Alaska Native cultures, traditions, and stories. Experiences like this give our students opportunities to connect culture, identity, community, and learning while making memories together during their time at KCA. A great afternoon at the Heritage Center and another memorable experience for our Session 1 students! 🧡🖤

🎬 SESSION 1 | WEEK ONE AT KCA And just like that, Session 1 is underway! 🧡🖤 This first week has been about much more than orientation. It has been about building relationships, setting expectations, creating community, and helping our students see the opportunities that are ahead of them. Our students arrived at KCA from communities across the Lower Yukon ready to learn, grow, challenge themselves, and experience something new. Throughout orientation, we focused on what it means to be part of the KCA community and the values that will guide us throughout the session: Structure. Support. Accountability. Growth. We are proud of the way our students have stepped into this first week, and we are grateful for the staff, families, home sites, and partners who make these opportunities possible. This is only the beginning. We can't wait to see where Session 1 takes them. Welcome to KCA, Session 1! 🧡🖤

🫎 From Home to KCA — Skills That Travel With Our Students There are some things you just can’t learn from a textbook. Our KCA semester students (Warren Ramoth - SCM, JoElle Kamkoff - KOT, Charlie Coffee - MLL, Matthew Owletuck - MLL, Adrian Andrews - MOU, and Sterling Andrews - MOU) took advantage of the beautiful Anchorage weather and spent part of the day processing moose together. What stood out wasn’t just how hard they worked—it was the knowledge, confidence, and skills they brought with them from home. For many of our students, processing moose is more than a task. It represents family, culture, responsibility, teamwork, and providing for others. Those lessons were learned alongside parents, grandparents, relatives, and community members throughout our LYSD villages—and our students carried that knowledge with them all the way to KCA. Watching them work together was another reminder that our students arrive at KCA with tremendous strengths already in hand. KCA’s job is to build upon those strengths, connect them to new experiences and opportunities, and help our students see just how valuable the knowledge they bring from home truly is. Driven. Motivated. Capable. And proud of where they come from. Home taught them the skills. KCA gives them another place to put those skills to work. 🫎💪
