State School Improvement Designations Released

We’re excited to share a special video capturing the experiences of Carlsbad High School students during their recent two-week visit to Kotlik.

In collaboration with QTV students, the Carlsbad group immersed themselves in the local culture, traditions, and daily life of our community. What We Know Now That We Didn’t Know Then highlights their impressions, the friendships they formed, and the powerful connection within the community.

Kikori Spotlight Story  Lower Yukon School District increases Attendance, Engagement & JOY 🤩

**Do you qualify for Migrant Education services?** 

f your family depends on subsistence activities to feed your family and

*   has participated in fishing or berry picking and
*   the activities were at least 20 miles away from your primary residence for 7 nights or more (7 nights do not need to be in a row. 7 nights total for the year)

your student may qualify for Migrant Education Services.

**Migrant Education Services May Include:** 

*   Site adult for tutoring and student check-ins
*   Supplies: books, school supplies, backpacks, survival packs, lifejackets, Chromebooks
*   Lexia English classroom intervention with a speaking component
*   Teletherapy seats for migrant students
*   Summer school staffing to reduce class sizes for migrant students
*   Adult chaperones for student travel (Yup’ik spelling bee, student gov’t, elder/youth events)
*   Parent take-home learning kits (distributed at front desk and Title I events)
*   Literacy grant books for every migrant student
*

Migrant Education Services

In just four weeks, Lower Yukon School District's Summer School program demonstrated the transformative power of Kikori's experiential social-emotional learning (SEL) approach. Students flourished, attendance surged, and educators embraced innovative teaching methods with fervor. This case study illuminates the profound impact that joy-filled, SEL-focused education can have on student engagement, attendance and academic success. As we delve into these results, we ask you the reader to consider: If we were able to impact students and educators significantly over four weeks, imagine what we could do throughout an entire school year!
