Welcome to the 2026 School Year!
I am Buddy Hooper and my wife is Myrlice Hooper. I am the principal and Myrlice will be teaching 3-5 grade. We are here only on a temporary assignment for the first 10 weeks of school.
We come to you from Alpine, Arizona/Luna, New Mexico (The ALPS of Arizona). Our elevation is around 8000 ft. We have a ranch and raise cattle. There are also a lot of ELK in our area.
Previously, we were the principal and assistant principal in Alakanuk back several years ago, so this area is special to us. We dearly love your area of Alaska.
We have four boys. They are all married and have families. We also have 13 grandchildren. Two of those were adopted out of Yupik tribes here in the area.
We look forward to an awesome school year and look forward to meeting everyone real soon.

Kusilvak Career Academy (KCA) is accepting applications for Session 1! This is a great opportunity for students from across the Lower Yukon School District to earn high school and college credit, gain industry certifications, receive hands-on training, and build real-world experience.
📅 KCA SESSION 1
September 9 – October 16, 2026
✈️ Travel to Anchorage: September 8, 2026
🏠 Return Home: October 17, 2026
🚨 APPLICATION DEADLINE: AUGUST 17, 2026

We’re excited to get our Foxes moving, training, and preparing for the season! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️💪
🚨🩺 IMPORTANT: PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR STUDENT-ATHLETE’S SPORTS PHYSICAL IS COMPLETED BEFORE PARTICIPATING IN PRACTICES OR COMPETITION. IF YOUR CHILD HAS NOT COMPLETED THEIR PHYSICAL YET, PLEASE GET IT DONE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

A friendly reminder to all parents and guardians that the first day of school for the 2026–2027 school year is Thursday, August 20, 2026! 🗓️
Please take a moment to review the 2026–2027 LYSD School Calendar below for important school dates throughout the year. 🗓️
*️⃣ If you have not already RE-ENROLLED your child(ren) for the upcoming school year, please make sure to complete their re-enrollment as soon as possible.
✳️ If you have a child who will be starting Kindergarten, please make sure they are enrolled for the 2026–2027 school year.
👉 **Re-enrollment and Kindergarten enrollment information and links are available through the Lower Yukon School District (LYSD) website.
🏃🏐🏀 **SPORTS PHYSICALS REMINDER!** 🏀🏐🏃
If your child(ren) will be participating in sports during the upcoming school year, please make sure their sports physicals are completed as soon as possible. Having their physical completed early will help ensure they are ready to participate when sports activities begin.

📣 Reminder to Parents & Guardians
As we prepare for another exciting year of school athletics, please make sure your child's sports physical is completed as soon as possible.
Cross-country is supposed to begin at the end of July, and all student-athletes must have a current physical on file before they can participate. Getting physicals done early will help ensure your child is ready for the start of the season and any other school sports throughout the year.
